Being A Heretic

Today in discussion in a chat room with a friend from England as well as a comment on this blog from someone else, the word heretic came up. I know that those of us that have embraced the redemption of the world are called heretics so I decided I would look at the meaning of the word and see if I personally fit that category by which we are called. The meaning of the word is as follows: a professed believer who maintains religious opinions contrary to those accepted by his or her church or rejects doctrines prescribed by that church.

Of course I immediately came to the conclusion that being called such is not anything that is derogatory nor is it insulting to me in any way. After reading this dictionary meaning of the word I have come to the conclusion that I definitely am a heretic because there is absolutely no doubt in my mind that I am in disagreement with the doctrines taught by the evangelical church.

After much study and pondering on different things in the Bible I could not continue on attending these organized religious systems that we have come to call church. There are of course too many things in different doctrines that are taught to list them all here but I will say that for me a major change occurred in my heart and mind when I realized that my belief, faith or whatever else had anything to do with my redemption. I was made in right standing with God when Jesus finished the work on our behalf at the cross as was the entire human race.

Some will tell you that you have to believe for this redemption to be in effect in our lives but the verses that contradict this are very numerous and stated quite plainly as well. I did not become a believer to get something. I became a believer when I realized I already had something. This of course was the realization that I had been redeemed by the blood of the Lamb and that apart from anything I could or should do. This is even apart from my believing it or not believing it. Romans 3:3 makes it clear that even unbelief does not make the faith OF God without effect.

This is only one of the verses where it is mentioned that it is not our faith but the faith OF the Son of God. This is clear in many places and can only be misunderstood if the word OF is changed to IN which has happened in numerous cases. Some translations have changed those two words around because it just does not match up with their doctrinal beliefs, which is one of the areas that have made me a heretic. There are many more like I have said but this one will suffice for now as it’s a doctrine that has been formed to back up a belief system that takes victory away from Jesus Christ and places the onus on the people to try and obtain something that has already been obtained on our behalf at the cross.

So again, am I a heretic? Absolutely. Do I intend to remain a heretic? Absolutely. As long as verses are twisted around to suit their man made doctrines, then yes, I am against church doctrines that teach wrongly that we are responsible for our redemption. This may be a rather harsh statement but I will say it nonetheless…..a doctrine that says we must do anything for redemption is anti Christ. John said there would be many anti Christ that would come and boy was he ever right on. A heretic I am and a heretic I will remain.

Thank you so much!! I said, “heretic,” but what some would have called my response on the bible would be blasphemy. I agree, I am a heretic also and I have no choice. As you, I am more concerned about seeking God and His truth than being right with man! That is what I desire more than naything else! I hear God in what you write and believe!

    Thanks again!

Some would say blasphemy for sure but I say continue on in the freedom wherewith Christ has made you free. I also am not interested in pleasing man any longer either. I am glad you hear God in what I write and believe. I do as well, even though it makes me a heretic. :-)

Yes it appears that I too am a heretic. I see plainly that after reading this post there is no doubt about it. Thanks for making it so clear. I see now more than ever that the gap between where I am and where I was is too wide to ever go back. Yes being a heretic will have to be suffice.

Welcome to the crowd Don R……we are in good company as Jesus was also deemed to be a heretic when he went against the religious system of His day.

“Heritic” is the brother of “Heresy.”

Heresy - a controversial or unorthodox opinion or doctrine.
Heritic - a person who holds contoversial opinions; one who publicly dissents
from the officialy accepted dogma of organized religion. A radical.

“Now I beseech you, brethren, mark them which cause divisions and offences contrary to the doctrine which you have learned; and avoid them.” Rom. 16:17.

Who were the ones that often caused divisions and offences? What was the doctrine that Paul was preaching that often caused so much controversy, and brought about so much division? Who were the ones to be avoided?

Paul’s opposition were none other than those who were still trusting in the law for justification before God. They were none other than those who claimed to have Abraham and Moses as their father. The opposing doctrine was none other than the preaching of dead works. The controversial ones were none other than the Jews who were still trusting in the law and were opposing Paul’s simple message of grace without the works of the law. Heresy and Heritics were none other than those who believed that they could be saved by grace but kept by law. Galatians chapter 2.

The Far and Saducee’s, and Scribes were labeled by Paul as being full of heresies and being heritics. Anyone who is still mixing the grace of God with the law of Moses and believing that it is what they do plus what Christ did that keeps them in rightstanding with God, is a Heritic and living and preaching heresy.
A heritic is not one who preaches grace apart from the law of sin and death. “For the law was given by Moses, but grace and truth came by Jesus Christ.” John 1:17.

    Romans 16:18

“For they which are such (Heritic Christian Jews) serve not Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches DECEIVE the hearts of the simple.” Todays Heritical preachers are those who are still preaching the same gospel that Paul rebuked “Peter, James and John” for throughout the letter to the Galatians. The Hinn’s, Creflo’s, Paula White’s, Meyer’s, Copeland’s, Hagin’s, Parsley’s, Hagee’s, Swaggart’s, and hundreds more like them.

They serve their own belly, by deceiving the hearts of the simple minded with good words, fair speeches and mixed doctrines of self-righteous dead works of the law. In verse 19 the apostle Paul, to this very day, warns those of us who have come to a knowledge of the Gospel of Grace and Peace and unconditional love, to avoid those who preach and teach that it is what Christ did, plus what they do that gets them right with God.

Just as Paul blamed Peter, James and John for preaching a perverted gospel, after they had begun in the Sprit of Grace, so it is with our modern organized Christian pulpits of today. Paul rebuked the three for preaching heresy, and following heritics who were preaching Moses law, because after the began preaching the Grace of God apart from the dead works of the law, they compromise the truth by adding works (law) to it.

So a heritic is not one who believes the Gospel apart from the works of the law. A heretic is one who believes, teaches and preaches that it is law and grace that saves. And they do it for the purpose of serving their own belly. They are doing it for the purpose to keep people in their pockets and under their control. To keep people in fear of hell. To scare them into believing that ‘good gets heaven and bad gets hell. They want to keep people under the yoke and bondage of the law. Otherwise they won’t be able to feed their own belly. Heretics and Heresies stop when they come to the knowledge of the Grace and Peace of Christ… not Moses!

    Peace

In addition, it was Paul who taught in Romans chapter 7 that the law was good if a man kept the whole law; but the law became a nightmare (evil) when not kept entirely.

Romans 16:19 warns those of us who have been set free from the religious doctrines of heresy and from the religious pulpits of heretics, to be WISE unto that which is GOOD, and simple cencerning EVIL.

The Gospel of Grace becomes of no effect (evil) when it is mixed with the dead works of the law. Reach a heretic with grace, peace and love, but be wise to their swift and smooth teachings of the law. Religious people aren’t evil. They are saved by the same Gospel of Grace and Peace as we are. They just don’t know it.

The law is good when kept entirely. But it becomes evil in the religious mind of a heretic. Love the heretic but avoid their heresy. Just my two cents worth. Thank you!

Thanks for the comments on being a heretic. I wrote this with the explanation at the beginning as that of one being that my beliefs are contrary to what the church teaches. I do not consider myself a heretic in the light that you wrote your comment and I do agree with you on what you say about those that preach the Gospel for their own belly. I guess I never saw them as being heretic but what you say does make sense. To sum up……I am a heretic by the definition I used but definitely not one by the definition you use as being a heretic.

    Appreciate your comments very much.

    hiya.

it took me a long time to come to terms with my unofficial heretic status, but hey, we’re heretics for hope.

the only party at the end of the world i want to be at is the one where everyone’s invited and there’s 100% attendance.

    viva grace, hope and mystery.
